October Update

The rain continues ….. however our course is still holding up well, such that we are the only club who has been able to host “Pennant” so far this year. The first round of pennant was hosted by Jindera on Sunday 9th October where 40 players took to the field in glorious sunshine (True), with both Jindera teams bringing home the chocolates.

Jindera A defeated Corowa and Jindera B defeated Holbrook.

The two rounds following – on the 16th and 23rd October at Albury and Culcairn respectively – were cancelled due to weather and/or poor course conditions.

The inclement weather has also caused delays with our irrigation upgrade, with marking of the course, trenching and tank installation tasks being delayed. Hopefully as things dry out we will see some action soon.

The “9-Hole” Comp is still running in conjunction the normal 18-hole Sunday comp and provides a great opportunity for those looking for an entry level into competition golf. Ideal for juniors …

The Friday night “Chook Run” is now running on Daylight Savings times, with tee-offs between 4 and 5 pm.

September Update

Our course is holding up well given the amount of rain we have had, with some of the major courses in the area having to close at times due to being saturated.

The September “Monthly Medal” winner was Chris Larkin.

The Friday night “Chook Run” will revert to a 4.00/4.30 start when daylight savings starts in October.

This will involve some closing of the course for periods of time.

Our annual Tournament was held on Sunday 11th September. The “2 Ball Ambrose” mens and mixed unfortunately had to be cancelled due to flooding on the course.

The men’s event on Sunday however was a great day with 45 players enjoying a great day of golf.

Thanks go to our generous sponsor in Daryl Klein of Jindera Veterinary Clinic, Craig McMillan our men’s captain and the match committee for organising the day, the ladies for another tremendous catering job and the grounds committee for ensuring the course was in great condition and the MDGA (Murray District Golf Association) for their sponsorship of prizes.

Some VERY good news on the grant front – we have been fortunate enough to win a grant to upgrade our irrigation system, which will include the installation of a 220,000 litre colourbond tank, new electric pump, piping and sprinklers.

The grant was provided through the “Department of Responsible Gambling and Alcohol”, where a portion of taxes collected from the industry are reinvested to the community through grants.

We expect actual work on the course to begin around early November.

May Update

The weather continues to be kind to us in terms of providing the ideal environment for growing grass, with the course in tiptop condition thanks to our dedicated and hardworking grounds committee.

Our trustee fairway mower however is not travelling all that well and … has died. This has left us in a bit of a dilemma, having to scramble to raise funds for a replacement – a new Kubota 72” cut diesel mower has now been ordered, at a cost of around $23,000.00 (ouch! I hear you say)

Fortunately we have been successful in securing a grant of $10,000.00 from “Golf NSW” and are also currently running a raffle to help cover the balance.

Tickets $5.00 each – 1st prize $500.00 IGA vouchers, 2nd $250.00 butcher, 3rd $100.00 vet clinic.

Draw late June, tickets are available at most businesses in Jindera, and all support is greatly appreciated.

Junior Golf

Jindera golf club hosted a round of the Golf NSW “Juniors On The Move” tournament on Sunday 16th May. This is a great initiative organised by Cade Webb of Golf NSW and the Murray Districts Golf Association (MDGA).

There were around 20 juniors from the district competing at various levels and a great day was had by all.

Congratulations to our own Bonnie McMillan for taking out the girls longest drive.

Cameron Odewahn (Accredited Coach) ran a coaching clinic for around 12 local kids leading up to the event and we are hopeful of providing more clinics further down the track.

February Update

Rain and More Rain – Flooding creek and growing grass! Pretty well sums up February.

We also purchased another 30sqm of couch turf to put around the 9th green so as to minimise the impact of rain washing away sand from the existing turf.

The course is looking a picture even though a lot effort is reuired keeping the grass under control.
