June Update

The wet and cold weather hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of golfers, with good numbers at all competitions braving the elements to date.

“Monthly Medal” winners to date include – March – David Gray, April – Rhett Prescott, May – Robin (Strop) Weldon, June – Greg Preston.

The July Monthly Medal and 4th round of the club championships will  be held 3rd July.

AND, don’t forget, we are now running a “9 Hole” comp in conjunction with the normal 18 hole Sunday comp for those who only wish to play 9 holes – handicap is not required and scores will go towards getting a handicap. Tee times follow the usual Sunday comp.

Friday Chook Run is still running, although tee time is now 3.00/3.15 in order to beat the dark. You can also play earlier in the week if you wish, just find a partner, play your round and place card and $5.00 under the door.

In the meantime, current comps are as follows :-

  • Sunday – Men’s 18/9 holes, event according to calendar on website Tee-off 8.30/9.00. (11.30/12.00 from June)
  • Wednesday – VETS 9 Holes, Stableford (unless notified differently) Tee-off 8.30/9.00
  • Friday – Chook Run – 9 Holes, Open to all, Tee-Off Currently 3.00/3.15, can also be played throughout the week – Play your game, place cards – signed and verified by partner  with $5.00 in an envelope and slide under the door.

Membership – As mentioned previously, the number of social golfers using our course – and paying Green Fees – seems to be growing every week, which is great for the golf club and the community.

Season 2022 membership renewals heave been sent out, with GST added to the cost of memberships this year, bringing the cost of adult memberships to $110.00 (incldg GST) and $33.00 (incldg GST) for juniors. Please support your community golf club and renew your membership via the payment details on the invoice.

April Update

Things have been fairly steady at “Royal Jindera” over the past month, with plenty of work being carried out around the course and all comps running well with good numbers.

The main Sunday comp has seen two monthly medal winners to date – David Gray winning the March medal with a “Net” score of 66 and Rhett Prescott taking out the April medal with a fine score of “Net” 62.

The club championships are also underway with two rounds currently completed.

Also, we are now running a “9 Hole” comp in conjunction with the normal 18 hole Sunday comp for those who only wish to play 9 holes – handicap is not required and scores will go towards getting a handicap. Tee times 8.30/9.00.

Friday Chook Run is still running, although with earlier tee-off of 3.00/4.00 pm. You can also play earlier in the week if you wish, just find a partner, play your round and place card and $5.00 under the door.

In the meantime, current comps are as follows :-

February Update

Rain and More Rain – Flooding creek and growing grass! Pretty well sums up February.

We also purchased another 30sqm of couch turf to put around the 9th green so as to minimise the impact of rain washing away sand from the existing turf.

The course is looking a picture even though a lot effort is reuired keeping the grass under control.

Pennant – The Mighty Jindera Golf Club took out the 2021 MDGA Pennant competition last Sunday the 21st Nov at Thurgoona. It was a hard fought affair against a very competitive Culcairn side where all games bar one went to the 17th and 18th holes before being decided.

Thanks go out to Steve Keshire and the MDGA (Murray Districts Golf Association) team for organising another great Pennant competition.

The competing clubs were :- Jindera (A/B), Culcairn (A/B), Holbrook, Howlong (A/B), Thurgoona (A/B) Corowa (A/B), Albury and MDGA All Stars.

Course Works – The grounds committee have been working hard over the past few weeks installing some “Couch” turf around some of the greens in a bid to encourage it to spread out to the fairways thereby improving the approach to the greens. Currently targeted are the 1st, 6th, 8th and 9th greens. We ask all players to treat the new work as “GUR” and please take care, as this is the start of on-going works in this area.

The final clinic will be on Sunday 31st October with a shortened game and modified rules.

Thanks to Cameron Odewahn for the time he has put into the kids in somewhat difficult circumstances with the dreaded COVID situation.

September Update

September has seen a number of COVID related interruptions to our golf program, including challenges to course maintenance and our Tournament, which is FINALLY on Sunday the 26th September.

August Update

Junior Golf kicked-off on Sunday 8th August at 10.00am with around 12 kids learning the basics of golf under the expert tutelage of Cameron Odewahn. The following Sunday however was cancelled due to the new Covid restrictions brought in by the NSW government on Saturday 14th Aug. This was unfortunate as we had around 22 kids registered with a lot interest being shown by the community. The program will continue when Covid rules allow.

Jindera Golf and COVID

Given the new covid restrictions applicable to regional NSW, The advice from Golf NSW – see below – is that usual club golf may continue provided that –

  • Groups are a maximum of two players (unless they are from the same household)
  • Usual Covid restrictions are observed (5km travel limit, social distancing, Masks, Covid check-in etc)

Consequently, our usual comps. will still be on as per the following advice from golf nsw, bearing in mind that the groups must only be in pairs and that all players wear masks where required.

STAY AT HOME RULES

The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve and due to the risks associated with an increasing number of venues and transmissions which have occurred, the strict stay-at-home rules that were applicable to ALL of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour have now been extended to all of regional NSW, from 5pm Saturday 14 August.

Other than in the areas of concern, people will only be able to leave home for one of the following four reasons:

  •  Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
  • Medical care or compassionate needs

  • Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home

JULY UPDATE

July has seen some very challenging weather for both playing golf and also for the grounds committee in trying to maintain the course.

Our annual tournament slated for the weekend of 24/25 July has been a casualty of the continued run of bad weather, exacerbated by Covid lockdown restrictions on victorian golfers.

The tournament has now been moved to the weekend of 25/26th September where we hope that the weather and Covid restrictions will align for a successful day.
